Dentistry can be intimidating as often procedures and steps are not explained to patients. We at Transcendental believe in transparent conversation and in educating patients about their oral health. We approach diagnosis by carefully collecting and considering your concerns and dental history, and then developing a treatment plan according to your personal goals. We take a comprehensive approach in treating your oral health as part of your overall health.
Understanding the anxiety that many people feel about dental treatment, we spend the time with each patient reviewing options of treatment. We savor the opportunity to connect with each of our patients, discover what makes them unique and hear their amazing stories. Thanks to Dr. Mohajer’s special training in sedation dentistry, she will be able to provide options for anxiety relief in cases where sedation is helpful for patients with dental-based anxieties. Over time, many of these patients are able to overcome their dental phobias as they experience dentistry in a new gentle way under the care of Dr. Mohajer.
We believe in comprehensive dental care that utilizes the most advanced science and technology available. Prevention and proactive approaches to dental care are core to our philosophy. Through conservative treatment techniques, we strive to preserve your natural and biological tooth structure and dental health.
A team approach is sometimes necessary for the best care to be provided to a patient. In cases when the involvement of a specialist and a team approach is indicated, Dr. Mohajer will work closely and provide advice in referral to appropriate providers.
Dr. Marjan Mohajer is a Persian-American who moved to Southern California for college, where she attended the University of California and studied Mechanical Engineering. She received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine in 2013. She continued her training in dentistry, attending general practice residency at Albert Einstein University hospital, Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, where she received her certificate for sedation dentistry. During her residency, she also volunteered weekly at Rose F. These experiences help her serve the special needs population in her community to this day.
Believing in a comprehensive approach to treatment, Dr. Mohajer has continued to invest numerous hours in her education with a focus in dental implantology through seeking mentorship and continuing education, learning the most advanced techniques available in dentistry today.
When she takes time off from dentistry and learning, Marjan takes joy in working with her partner Adam on indie film productions and at film festivals. She also is an avid fan of snowboarding, traveling, reading, and her favorite schnauzer, Upton Sinclair.

Root canal therapy is an endodontic procedure.
Signs and symptoms indicating you may need a root canal:
Root canal is a common procedure for restoring an infected tooth, or a tooth with a large cavity or fracture that affects the nerve of the tooth. Root canal is also indicated in cases when the tooth has an abscess or nerve damage due to trauma.
Root canal treatment is a procedure that helps with elimination of bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth. During root canal treatment, after ensuring you are numb and comfortable, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. Root canal treated teeth are typically restored with a crown or onlay/inlay restoration for better seal and stability.
Dental implants are made from titanium or zirconia and can offer the most non-invasive solution for replacement of a missing tooth. Dental implants can be an ideal treatment both in terms of function and aesthetic, providing options for patients missing single or multiple teeth. Today dental implants allow for replacement of teeth in fully edentulous patients while providing a fixed prosthesis that gives patients a beautiful smile and function. At Transcendental, we believe in providing dentistry that is supported by the latest research and technological advancement and backed by empirical data. This is why Dr. Mohajer’s implant surgical protocol involves use of the most reliable implant components in the market and guided surgical technique with help of 3D imaging and planning technology to ensure the most accurate and predictable results.
Sometimes a tooth is compromised such that it is not restorable or has a very poor prognosis. These teeth need to be extracted before they cause additional problems such as oral infection or more severe health issues. Luckily, modern dentistry offers many options to replace teeth that must be extracted.
In unfortunate circumstances where a tooth is deemed unrestorable and has to be removed, the jaw bone surrounding the tooth space, also referred to as the socket, goes through remodeling during the healing process. This is because the bone does not serve the purpose of holding the tooth anymore. This remodeling of the bone can cause drastic resorption of the bone in the area of the missing tooth, and can lead to more severe consequences such as shifting of teeth and malocclusion. This is why today’s standard of care recommends taking steps to preserve the bone structure by bone grafting and socket preservation at the time of extraction. During this procedure, the socket is packed with bone graft particles to function as a matrix for your own cells and bioregenerative material is used to help enhance your cells’ ability to heal while preserving the integrity of the bone structure in your jaw.

Periodontal disease, including gingivitis and periodontitis, is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults. That's because your gums form the foundation of your teeth and your smile. The best way to keep your teeth healthy is to maintain healthy gums that are free of periodontal disease. A thorough periodontal assessment is a key part of an oral health evaluation. It helps us determine the condition of the underlying foundation before dental care is initiated.
Signs of gum disease includes bleeding, swelling, redness, sensitivity, and pain on and around the gum.
Besides emphasis on daily oral hygiene routine, to keep your periodontal health, we recommend professional dental cleaning every six months to allow for removal of plaque and calculus that accumulate in hard to reach areas in the mouth.
Neglecting oral hygiene can lead to gum disease known as gingivitis, and in more severe cases, periodontitis. Periodontitis is diagnosed with presence of bone loss and deeper pocketing around the teeth. Periodontitis is a chronic disease and though there is no cure for chronic gum disease, there is treatment to help stop the progression of the disease and stabilize your gum health.
In case of presence of periodontitis, deep scaling and root planing to ensure the elimination of tartar, dental plaque and bacteria is indicated. In most cases when periodontal disease is present, follow up maintenance visit for cleaning is recommended for every 3-4 months to help eliminate plaque accumulation in deeper pockets around the teeth and buildup of calculus.
